Texecom launched a ground-breaking wireless technology, Ricochet mesh networking, to universal acclaim.

Ricochet is a mesh networking, battery operated, continuously supervised, bi-directional protocol, designed for use in the security industry. However, with the list of features mentioned, the question was posed as to whether Texecom could further utilise the technology. As the focus on IoT and effective communication methods increases, this question becomes all the more pertinent; are we using Ricochet to its full potential?

Texecom has always been a market leader in terms of product innovation, and proud of its British-made heritage. With that in mind and considering our global HQ is 20 minutes north of the city centre, we are delighted to have the opportunity to sponsor Hack Manchester.

Challenge

Use our network of wireless sensors to show us something interesting about the behaviour of people at Manchester Science Festival and the Texecom head office. Come up with ways to extract, visualise, analyse and pool the data gathered from the sensors deployed across the Great Western Warehouse and our own offices.

The wilder and wackier the insights and ideas, the better!

Stu Richards, one Texecom’s Engineers, will be judging all of your ideas over the weekend of the 28th and 29th of October and will be presenting prizes to the winning team.

Following our work with the HAC100 team and decision to sponsor the senior event, we decided to get involved with Hack Manchester Junior. We are intrigued to see what kinds of ideas the juniors bring to the table.

Who moves more? Tell us something interesting about the people at the Manchester Science festival and Texecom’s office. We have wireless sensors in both places, so use the data to see what people are up to. Grab and analyse data from the devices, visualise and pool it in interesting ways, or tell us something surprising that you notice and you might be named the winner.
